I can't imagine doing any banking online.
People are too trusting if they believe their personal info is secure....there's always some way to hack it.
If you do things on line from your own home's password protected modem and accounts, it's not so bad. The worst hacks have been direct attacks on banks, data storage centers, etc. and in those cases, you could be ithout a computer and still have a problem. If you go to internet cafes and log onto publicly accessed wi-if networks, that's asking for trouble. However, the good news is, if you set things up right, you can tightly and quickly monitor all activity on your accounts.
I do almost all of my stuff on line but I have rotating passwords and at least two factor authentication. I have one credit card only and any time it has a charge placed on it, I get an immediate notification by e-mail of its use. Any on line orders or out of country orders, it texts an authentication code to me phone that I have to enter to complete the transaction. I went through 3 credit cards in 4 months where it kept alerting me someone was using it. I'm pretty sure it was a waitress that worked at a little restaurant we like because it happened 3 times and that was the only place we visited three times during that time period. She doesn't work there any more and we've had no trouble since.

FYI..your going on-line or not makes no difference to most hackers...they hack the financial institution..not your computer. You use a credit card on-line..could be bad. You use a credit card in a restaurant that has an online presence..could still be bad.
A person could be totally without any online presence and still get screwed. Although the odds are greatly lessened.
Fraud/Identity Theft from online banking and EFT is somewhat covered and insured by the government or banks under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act. You must report it timely however.

This is true. Unless one has lived off grid thier whole life, there is always some personal information out there. Hackers steal info from the databases. They can even swipe information from a laptop wifi in public places, like plazas and coffee shops.
You can reduce the risk of personal theft, like checking ATM machined for skimmers, not using public wi do and shredding documents for the old school thieves who trash dive. But one cannot eliminate the risk 100 percent.
Change your passwords as often as possible, I do this and it helps.
Also don't use a dictionary word or person's nam as a password because it's too easy to hack. Use a combination of letters, symbols and numbers that don't form a dictionary word.
