I agree. He needs it to live. If he stopped his exercise it wouldn't be long till he would be in the hospital with his wife. Only this time as a patient. And he probably doesn't want to be a bother to anybody by asking for help. There are some amazing people his age that do marathons (26.2 miles). But they are the exception rather than the rule. I wish him many more miles to come. The following is further inspiration for us all.

He would probably still walk even if he had rides. His family said he has always walked. He enjoys it.
Americans don't walk nearly enough. They always want to get as close to the front door of wherever they are going as they can. This gentleman's walking is a great stress reliever, and keeps him in shape. Look at him. He looks terrific. It's because he is moving.

Elderly in some less developed countries walk long distances as a matter of course. It's part of daily life, and taken for granted. And they generally live longer because they are more active. Not so in the western world. We drive everywhere, and people who walk instead are looked at funny. Walk carrying your groceries home, and you really get strange looks, lol.

He is strong enough that he could walk 10k races, and finish. With a little practice he could walk, and finish a half marathon, 13.1 miles. He is doing close to 12 miles already, maybe 11 1/2, but is resting in between. He would really clean up in his age group category as there would probably be no competition, lol. I bet he would be good at it, and blow people's minds. If he didn't keep up his walking he would decline in condition rapidly, and weaken. Walking is his thing. Good for him. Keep it up Sir.

This first one has some real life examples of older folks who enjoy walking a lot.

Wish I can have that one day. I admire them both (I get the feeling wife would probably do the same if she could and had to).

I hope he has alot of people give him rides alot!

God bless him.........

There's a lot more people die from lying on the couch than there are from having accidents while walking.

I don't want some idiot to harm him. Then where would his wife be? Stuck in a hospital mostly alone because her husband was injured or dead.

My comment was made because I cannot fathom a 98 year old man walking that distance. But then, I am lazy and cannot fathom walking one mile!

Again, I did not read the story because I don't want to cry (thanks for the heads up to the poster who said they read it and cried). I am just amazed by him.

This story made me just sob.
