What are the odds that this guy will have quite a few supporters on this forum?
You know, some of the same people that crucified a college basketball coach for properly defending his vehicle and his life by punching a drunken thug once (that already punched an innocent bystander), by saying that the coach should have driven away and not escalated the situation?
The New Orleans Advocate reports that 31-year Simon Morris was arrested in the death of a man identified only as "Edwin."
Police said Edwin approached Morris and asked him for a dollar outside a gas station Friday morning, but then snatched the wallet from Morris's back pocket. Morris chased and caught Edwin.
Police said Edwin was severely beaten and kicked for at least five minutes despite efforts by others to intervene. Edwin died later at a hospital.

"and his life" that part is about as iffy as iffy gets. It's so out there with the facts we have to work with that your whole point becomes pointless.
How does a person beat another for FIVE MINUTES after the other isn't fighting back? this man is an animal and deserves prison. Get your wallet back, maybe smack him around a bit but what this guy did was nothing short of sadistic brutality.
Don't steal people's wallets in the first place.........
So this guy turned a stolen wallet into a manslaughter charge and prison time - an inconvenience into a life mistake. Way to make a bad situation infinitely worse by taking the caveman approach.

A five minute beat down is a bit overkill...far beyond any lesson being taught...
It isn’t like he tackled him and the guy hit his head or something...he rained blows upon the dude for five minutes.

Simon Morris' actions certainly amount to overkill and he will need to suffer the legal consequences of his overreaction but I do NOT feel sorry for what happened to 'Edwin' either. I will not condone the actions of a thief. A life of crime does not always end well. C'est la vie.

Well, in the US, you can't beat someone to death for stealing your wallet.
I hope.
I do have some degree of empathy for people who take one punch and it kills someone, which was not their intent. In Austin recently there was a man who confronted a man outside a bar, who had just grabbed his wife's boobs in the bar. The husband shoved the man, who then fell and you guessed it, died of a head injury from his fall on the pavement. Likely in part because he was very drunk, and head injuries are more severe when the person is drunk. I'm having a hard time thinking the husband should be charged with anything at all, but he was.
This guy? Murder.
