True love still exists in this world.

Luther Younger walks everywhere.

For the past two weeks, the 98-year-old Korean War veteran has walked about 6 miles each way to visit his wife of 50 years, who is paralyzed and at the hospital, Spectrum News Rochester reported.

“I ain’t nothing without my wife,” Younger told Spectrum New Rochester. “It’s been a rough pull. It’s been tough.”

Wow. What a lovely story. His kids said he walks all the time. What an incredibly tough man, with a really tender side.

He's 98 years old and walks almost 6 miles one way over 2 weeks??????? That's a 12 mile round trip walk. Da*n. I almost find this hard to believe (I did not click on the link or read the story). Just da*n. His kids should be sure he gets a ride, a room close to the hospital, or sleeps in her room.

At the last house we had, I had a neighbor that was in his 80's that was pretty active and would walk a mile or so if he had to; he also said it kept him young. I believe my neighbor was in the Korean war too like this man. Unfortunately my neighbor passed a few years ago from a freak hernia that strangled his intestines. He didn't have a spouse, had a lady friend that lived an hour away. There were days his car needed serviced.

I sure wouldn't let my neighbor walk anywhere once we started becoming friendly. I sure as heck wouldn't let this guy walk if I knew him and I was home. Heck, I'd run my errands around driving him to see his wife.

I also don't know why he's not staying over night.

Maybe his insistence on independence, and walking such long distances have been what's kept him alive and healthy. ;D

I guess he enjoys walking, some people do prefer it. It is keeping him healthy anyhow.

He says he's not like all those other "hunched over old men" because he walks. He always walks. To him it's natural. He doesn't ask for a ride, he just gets out and walks. Maybe his kids should tell him to call them for a ride but I don't think he would.

He really, really loves his wife. She's all he can think about.
