SUNSPOT, N.M. - The solar observatory located in Sunspot, N.M. that was closed for safety reasons is scheduled to reopen after it was shut down while the FBI investigated the area.
According to a release by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), the observatory will reopen Monday after criminal activity was reported at Sacramento Peak.
The release also stated that the investigation involved a suspect who AURA officials believed posed a threat to the safety of staff and residents that live nearby.
AURA has not released the current status of the suspect or any information involving the suspect. According to AURA, they did not release any information about the closure because of the potential of alerting the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation.
We'd be fools to believe we're alone in this vast universe. To coin a phrase from Aliens, "Somebody's out there and it ain't us!".
I hope they are friendlier than humans and that we're not the best this universe has to offer.
That cuts both ways. We are told that there are billions or even infinite stars and planets. Some have had a few million, billion or trillion years head start on technology. Think of what we did in just the last 100 years. If there are that many planets with such a head start in advancement, I think we would see signs of that all over the galaxy. Instead, we never see much of anything out there.
The observatory as of this morning is back open for operations. The bare bones explanation for the closure was "suspicion of criminal activity." Which still leaves lots of questions unanswered.
I heard ALF escaped so they had to shut it down temporarily.
