Our unbelievably irresponsible media strikes yet again. This kid's family is absolutely crushed, and my guess is nobody in the media will be held accountable -- no firings, no demotions, not even one day's worth of suspension.

Nobody made the media run with a story before they knew the facts without any concern for the consequences of doing so. They did that of their own volition. So yes, that is the media's fault.
The only good thing to come out of this sad turn is the publicity for the real Timmothy's disappearance. His story and pictures are back in the media and perhaps some new tips will lead to a significant break.

That was my thought as well. I hope this horrible cruel hoax will at least give law enforcement new tips to follow up on since the story is so much in the news again.

Surely you must realize that the FBI and/or other authorities involved contacted the family before the story appeared in the media, and also let them know that this imposter was not Timmothy?

This has been a big story in my area, he is being held on making false statements, and as far as the media running with a story before the facts are in I believe that they learned nothing from the CovCath kids, it’s all about sensationalism and ratings, so bush league.
