Can anyone offer advice please. I am relocating with my wife and two children from South Louisiana at the end of July to the area and honestly do not know anything about the area except for statistics. Our #1 concern is a safe place to live. #2 is the best public high school and middle school we can put our children in. My employer prefers I reside east of Dallas due to customer base. Commuting is not much of an issue as traffic. I have looked at statistics in Rowlett,Garland, Plano and Mesquite so far and am leaning to Rowlett because of its safety ,schools and fishing/boating. We are going to rent for at least a year and cannot afford over $1200.00 per month right now. Can anyone offer advice/recommendations? We would really appreciate it. By the way my wife is going to be seeking employment in the banking industry (extensive experience) and will have to commute.Thanks so much !

I'd alos highly recommend looking at Rockwall. It's just on the other side of Lake Ray Hubbard from Rowlett. It's a VERY nice community with well-regarded schools and has homes in all price ranges. The commute will be slightly longer, say maybe 15 minutes, since you will have to cross the lake, but there are two bridges so it's not a problem.

Another killer commute, in addition to Rockwall, is Highland Village. Super nice place near/on Lake Grapevine that you'd probably like. Comparable commute to Rowlett and Rockwall.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone know if most rentals are by owner ? I keep looking on Realtor.com and not having much luck we are going to be in the area looking for a place within the next two weeks.
