City approved new subdivision Near 121 between Coit and Independence on Haggard's land. They gave Grand home green light for building 115 homes on 27 acres.

The family were in the talks about the tract at Custer and Park with Toll Brothers for the longest time for 57 acres out of the 118. TB were going to build SFR but decided to build townhomes. The family is keeping the rest for the animals grazing etc. but are trying to get the zoning changed to residential so they will eventually sell it too. I wonder how that is going to affect the smell from living so close to pasture.

It has always been so cool to drive through a city as big as Plano and see the LLamas and other animals.

These lush green pastures and animals give such a nice contrast to buildings. I always think of them as little islands of serenity for city dwellers. It is a good news for people looking to buy brand new homes in Plano. These homes will start in early 400's which is always in demand here.

I enjoy driving by the Haggard place when the wheat or sorghum is growing and waving in the wind.

Its very hard to farm in the city. The worst is when livestock gets out and gets into traffic. Next is when you need to move machinery and people zoom around you or stop and scream at you for blocking the road. Or people drive through your fences.

A few years ago I stopped to help the Frisco police get a bunch of cows back in. They were scattered all over Parkwood. Frisco's Finest were pretty bad at it, but it took me about a minute to get it done. It was fun and made me miss my younger years. There is nothing like pushing 1000 head all by yourself on a gorgeous spring day. Or getting into a 300 HP tractor right when the sun is coming up.

LOL! Must be fun! I never came across any opportunity like this during my 20 years in Collin County, things are handled quite well. I did stumble upon a really nice community recently with around two dozen homes on Windheaven PkWy, Red Wolf Estates. All homesaware built around 2007 on 1/2 acre or bigger lots and feed to PISD. They have everything we need but unfortunately we are short on 1.5 -2 million. Still, home search is introducing us to hidden beauties of the area. Two older homes next to that subdivision had serious acreage and stables. I had no idea that far west side had lots of this size. Not that I can afford it.

I just saw these strange animals when driving through Plano yesterday and was wondering what they were... This thread helped me clear it up as Llamas.

The Haggards get what they want from Plano and by rights they should. The family going back several generations has been great to Plano in a number of ways.

The older Haggard brothers Owen and Rutlidge (sp?) are savy real estate folks. They keep their land as working farms whenever psosible in order to maintaine viable ag exemptions for property tax purposes. A friend of the family but not a Haggard told me the even make money some years. I imagine the tollway corridor alone has made them a couple hundred million or so over the years.
