I am very interested in living in one of The Village Apartments. Just looking for suggestions.

Yes. They've changed a bit so I doubt you'd want my advice. I was 22 at the time and enjoyed it. Oh yea...it was 1974.

Basically, everybody has lived in The Village at one time or another.

I lived in them back in the mid 80's. Alot of remodeling has taken place since then. Living in the Village is like a right of passage.

I have lived in the Village for a few years now. It's safe, affordable, and in a great centrally located area. Of course, there are some college students, but I think there are more post-college, young professional people living here (think early 20s-40ish). There are quite a few residents 50+ as well, so there's a good age mix in the area. I met a lady this past summer who has lived in the same complex for 26 years!

There are some newer complexes as well as older ones. You should probably look at a few to see the differences. Also, if you have any pets, not all of the complexes allow them.

The Village is known as the place where you go live after you graduate and get your first job after college. It has primarily younger people, straight out of college who have recently moved to Dallas. It's got a lot of social activities, really beautiful grounds and a great jogging trail (all around it under majestic oak trees every 15 feet). The main con I would see is that you can't walk to much. There is the Old Town shopping center -- which has everything you'd need -- but it's not really easy to walk to from every complex at the Village.

Yes, I did, and know people who did AND still do. The Village is a GREAT idea. For someone who is young and/or single (18-30), you really can't get a better place to live. And I know one lady who has lived there like 30 years, and she is in her late 50s! LOL. But most people there are younger. The commute to downtown Dallas is quick & easy. The Country Club has a bar, decent food, a gym and a big pool - membership is free for any apartment complex occupant though. They have jogging trails around the place, with some great water views, giant shade trees and lots of urban wildlife...ducks, squirrels, etc. Plus your proximity to all the shops / clubs / bars / restaurants / Whiterock Lake / etc - is superb. "The Lakes" is my favorite of the older properties - lots of water views and trees, and its well built. "The Cliffs" are nice too (of the older properties). All of the newer properties are exceptional too, but really, you can't go wrong with any of them.

I lived in The Village from 1996-1999 when I was in my late 20's. I was just back there today at The Hill looking at a place to live while I try to sell my existing condo. It's almost mandatory that any person new to Dallas has to live there at some point.

Obviously, I enjoyed my time there. Coming from an area that had no apartment complexes, my jaw dropped the first time I saw the place. It still clings in some people's memories as one giant singles orgy back when you had to be single in order to live there. That policy was made illegal back in the mid-80s, IIRC.

One absolute mandatory tip: ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, live on the top floor!!! I don't care how expensive an apartment complex is - if it has wooden floors you will hear the people above you! It can be a nightmare depending on who your neighbor is.
