I was Vegas last week, had a wonderful time. While walking the strip, there was a little girl about 2 years old who was dressed in the most beautiful dress dancing to the music. She was adorable, absolutely adorable. I stopped to comment on how pretty she looked and share in her enthusiasm for dance, as well as another couple who cheered her on. The mother never turned around, didn't say a word. Completely ignored us. What do you think? RUDE or am I being sensitive. Next time I'll keep walking.

Maybe she didn't speak English?

I think chatting up strangers is a regional thing. It's just not done in other parts.

Or maybe she was hard of hearing or deaf.

Are you sure that the mom was who you thought it was? Perhaps she didn't hear you or pay attention, did you make eye contact with her? Sounds like her back was toward you. Usually moms keep their 2 year olds in sight. It was nice of you to take the time to compliment the little girl even if it landed on the parent's deaf ears.

I think you are being overly sensitive. Who knows- maybe the mother didn't hear you, doesn't speak English, etc.

Or maybe they just aren't talkative people.

I have no idea about the mom, but I bet the little girl enjoyed the attention. That's what mattered anyway.

I think you're being overly sensitive. People say 'cute kid' I say 'thanks'... is it supposed to go further than that?

you were overly sensitive--
you don't know them
they don't know you
maybe they thought you were perv checking the merchandise

why would you let that one negative moment spoil your vacation or even think twice about--
and how will our comments change what happened?
there is no way to go back and accurately assess why the woman reacted as she did

The music was loud, maybe she didn't hear us but when people tell me grandkids are adorable, I certainly turn around and acknowledge them grinning from ear to ear. She did speak english because she was calling to the girl, may be she was filming. Point taken overly sensitive.
