Hi,
we have a hard time choosing the new home. We are all spread around. My partner has a job in Richardson (Arapaho - Plano intersection), the child goes to school in Euless and I work part-time in DFW. We are searching for areas and homes around 70k, maybe forclosure home, SFH. We can also rent a home for max 1500 but honestly I am getting tired of renting....

I am the only one flexible and we were thinking to find something in between Richardson and Euless, family friendly, nice and safe. I like DFW a lot and I know nothing about other areas as I moved here last year. My partner does not want to drive much...or stay in traffic.

Thank you,
the new one

$70k? I'm thinking scary south Iving or scary old Grand Prairie... not much for $70k, but you'll pay rent up to $1500? A $1500 mortgage payment, including taxes and insurance, can easily buy you $170,000, not $70k.

Then it sounds like you'd be better served renting until you sock away enough cash to put down a hefty down payment on a home. $70k won't get you ANYTHING in a safe neighborhood with good schools (well, perhaps a small condo somewhere but a condo is a horrible investment in the Dallas burbs).

I'd rent. Is your kid in a private school in Euless? I can't imagine wanting to do that drive everyday. Perhaps there's a school in Richardson that would work? It's a great public district, close to your partner's job, and under 30 min to DFW for you. You should definitely be able to rent for $1500 or less and eventually you could save to buy something in the $130-150k range and stay in the same school district.

If you are set on staying with the Euless school, Irving would probably be the best mid-point location between Euless and Richardson, with DFW close by, too.

I would keep renting and save some money until you can get a better loan , for that price you won't get something you will be happy with.

Thanks for the reply. It is a Charter school and he likes it there....He hated the old school and he is in 1st grade. I have to make the sacrifice, I do not want to hurt him or to make him feel miserable again. Less than 15 kids in a class....good teacher...
Irving....I was advised from people at work to stay away from Irving . I do not know what to believe and I hate moving....

Irving schools aren't great, but with the charter school, it doesn't matter for you. You still won't be able to buy anything in a safe neighborhood for $70k, but you should have plenty of rental options.

May want to PM Squirl for specific neighborhood recs as she lives in Las Colinas (part of Irving) and is also a real estate investor/landlord.
