Can anyone recommend a nutritionist in the Dallas area? Not for losing weight, but more for an athlete? We know the basics, but would like someone that can offer menu plans, recipes and vitamin support.

You want a dietitian not a nutritionist. You can call any hospital and they should have one on staff who can help you. Insurance usually covers it.

That's not how it works, Trace. The Dietitian has to have a private practice in order to see patients and bill insurance companies. Most hospitals' staff Dietitians are not set up for private practice because they only see patients who are admitted to the hospital. So, the OP will need to find a private practice Dietitian.

That is actually not exactly true. My husband is a dietitian and works at a hospital. If the person has insurance they may need to ask their doctor to refer them to a dietitian but that's only if they have to be referred. People call up the hospital all the time to see a dietitian. They are called "out-patients." The people you're referring to are "in-patients." My husband sees both and helps a range of people. There are private practice dietitians of course, but my posting was to indicate that the OP can probably just call a local hospital to find one.

Good points. The hospital where I work only allows our RD to see inpatients, not outpatients.

Because of my insurance (TriCare Prime) I would have to get referral from a doctor I think, and would probably only get a referral approved if something was wrong or needed to be fixed.
