So, I LOVED this thread since we're moving from Santa Barbara to Plano in 2 weeks!! So, we'll be in the Bethany Elem "square". What do you guys think? I grew up in Peoria, AZ and I do miss suburbia since SB is all wealthy older peeps or college kids and tourists, of course. Not to mention, our 700k rental ($2500/mo) built in 1963, 1400 sq ft.

Being a liberal democrat an atheist does scare me a little. In Az, we were always scared to put our Obama/Kerry/Gore stickers on our car. We may have been shot. Not sure if we should take them off in Plano. We really wanted to live in Richardson but without visiting, it was too hard to see which areas were good and bad, besides the obvious prairie creek vs garland areas.

Any suggestions for a newcomer like myself?? Sounds like typical suburbia to me!!!

Should have moved to Richardson with those bumper stickers; it's not quite as red down here.

In my experience conservative types are far more tolerant of liberal democrats than vice versa.

Lady, you're not going to get shot over a bumper sticker...

You'll be fine.

You Will be just fine in the Bethany elementary area ,it's a very diversified middle class neighborhood and one of the best elementary school in Plano. It's also home to many democrats families ,American and foreign ( many Indians and European families live there) .

I live in West Plano and find I either do not know nor care about my neighbors political or religious leanings or that they are all across the board from liberal to conservative. My lifestyle and quality of life in Plano is great and nothing my neighbors believe or lean toward is going to change that. Texas has a great deal of diversity and integration, that is Houston/Dallas have residents from all over the globe (yes even california) and we dont live in ethnic conclaves. Welcome to the land of freedom in its deepest sense.

Well spoken, Johnhw2. The best sort of diversity is ideological diversity, for those who are secure in their beliefs.

I wasn't being serious when I responded to the OP. While you probably will not find many in Plano who share your beliefs (going on voting stats here), I don't think anyone there will hassle you about them.

If the OP wants to be with others hardcore leftists and socialists, Dallas itself would be a better choice than Collin County.
