Oak Lawn - Love field airplanes? (Richardson, Addison: cheap apartments, rental, condo)

I'm thinking of renting a place in Oak Lawn and walked around over the weekend. However, I noticed that the area is pretty much in the "take off" zone of DAL and heard planes taking off every 10-15 minutes. It's a bit louder than I thought it would be.

Anyone who lives or works in Oak Lawn can opine on the plane sounds? Does the amenities and convenience of the location outweigh this potential disadvantage?

My rental condo is near Turtle Creek and Blackburn; I lived there for 5 years. I noticed the planes for the first few weeks I lived there and then not so much after that. You just kind of tune it out after a while.

I would definitely say the neighborhood's benefits far outweigh the little bit of noise. And you have to go prett far from Love to get out of the flight path. My friend used to live on the top floor of a State Thomas apartment (near Hall & 75) and we used to sit on his roof on Sunday nights and enjoy cocktails while watching the planes fly in.

I live east of that area and noise abatement protocols around the airport really help keep the engine noise down. I think you'll adjust to the occasional overhead flight just fine.

After a few weeks in the area, overhead planes will not even cross your mind until a fighter jet takes off. I think I've heard that 3 times in the last 2 years total.

Now I will say the cedar springs and tollway area.....it gets REAL loud there. I had a buddy that lived in some very cheap apartments there and any time a SW plane would come in, it would rattle.

To the OP....I'm in Richardson and I hear airplane noise from Love Field, just to give you an idea of how far out you have to go to get away from it. There are precious few areas in DFW you can go and not be under a flight path, what with DFW, Love, Addison, and several other "executive" and private airports of varying levels of activity in the area.

Some of the most expensive RE in DFW is in Love's flight path, if that gives you an idea of how big a deal it is. (It isn't.)

It all depends I guess. We spent a couple years in Uptown and our street seems to align with planes on finale approach or landing. So we had planes buzzing by hourly it seemed. It wasn't all that bad but some days where busier than others in terms of air traffic which would get a mildly annoying.
