I purchased my house in desperation since my husband and realtor where giving me lots of pressure to decide. I noticed once I did the closing of the house that the gas meter was placed in the wrong location (in the middle of the entry!!).

I have my gas meter in the middle of the walkway (the main entry of my house) that does not even allow me to cross with my baby's stroller. I believe that my walking space is around 15 inches or less.

I called Atmos Energy and they told me that it will cost me from 800 to 5000 to move the meter. I wonder if the gas meter being in the middle of a walkway is not a violation of city code? Is there any rule that I can base this so they move the gas meter based on code compliance rather than paying to correct a mistake that they should not have done to begin with?

I would appreciate if you can give me some light.

Thank you,

Claudia

The law shouldn't permit a house to be sold with a gas meter in the hallway... or at least, it should require that the seller pays for it to be removed and relocated...

My question...did the building inspector(s) get their certification out of the Blue Light Special bin at Kmart???

Default I am stucked!!

That is what I am trying to find out.

I wonder who regulates those issues?

They should not have approved a house like that. Now, I am supposed to pay for a mistake that it should not happen to beggin with.

Can you post a pic of this (nothing that would give away the location). I'm trying to wrap my head around the placement of this thing.

I assume you mean you have the gas meter, which is usually behind or beside the house on your primary sidewalk going into the house. If I were you, I would relocate the sidewalk, and put a decorative cover over the meter.
