How about a gun range or grocery store?

I would have voted for RR tracks. I love trains.

Lol! These are the choices a friend presented to me, he is looking at some houses and wondering which backyard would be nicer. He grew up in apartments so more focused on his first yard than other things. Most homes back to alley or neighbor's yard but he is not liking it.

Then he should buy an estate on many acres so he won't be bothered by seeing other humans living nearby. Most homes back up to an alley or a neighbor's yard. He should get over it.

I did but his job is in North Dallas and time and money are limited. I really hope, he finds a good one. First homeowner in two generations, deserves to enjoy what he dreamt and saved for.

Plano has a good number of homes backing to golf courses, green belts, ravines, creeks, woods, parks and artificial lakes. There are some on market at the moment but their prices are a bit higher than standard (alley/neighbor's fence)yards. It does make backyard a oasis, a blessing in middle of a big metroplex.

It all depends on the location. There are trade-offs for everything.

EVERY house is a compromise in some way. I have been lucky to have something of a nice view outside my back doors in my last 4 houses (since the mid-90's) but who knows what the future brings. Your friend will have to weigh all the factors when he views homes in his desired location in his budget. Your friend is in the market with other buyers all weighing the same houses vs. their wants & needs. I am sure he'll find something he likes in the end. The housing market has no sense of "deserve" unless one buys from a special program designed for public service/low income buyers.
