I work in the exact same area.

I wouldn't say Mckinney is unbearable (21+ miles)

If you live to the west in Mckinney, you can take Custer south.

Allen is a non-commute. I have several co-workers that live out East in Wylie/Sachse - I never hear them complain.

Richardson is actually pretty well located from most of the areas around Dallas.

Where the commute gets really bad is if you're coming in from the Airport cities like Southlake and Flowermound (33+ miles)

Dallas to Mckinney is tough, but Richardson is a fair bit north from Dallas.

I used to commute through Richardson from Allen into downtown. Personally, I hated the drive. A small fender bender on the highway and you're knocked 30 minutes back. I ended up moving into Lake Highlands area of Dallas (area code 75231). It's in Richardson Ind. School District with pretty well recognized schools and TONS of mature trees. Most of the homes aren't new (much of the area was developed in the 70's), but there are certainly a few new homes here and there and smack dab in your price range.

My company is relocating our office from Deep Ellum to Richardson, not too far from your office (Glenville, just north of Collins Drive). I have been doing that commute for the last two weeks as I worked on getting the network ready for Monday, when we move in. The commute from LH has been great. 7.8 miles and I don't even have to get on Central Expressway... 15-18 minutes on surface streets.

If you have not already done so - GO GET THY SELF A MAPSCO! These can be LIFESAVERS! Even I as a Dallas native keeps an updated version as new streets are always being put in. Zipcodes are listed and everything. Super easy to use.

For the zipcodes to look in around Breckinridge Park try these:
75082 - Richardson
75044 - Garland
75094 - Murphy

Second MomOf2's opinion.

Also, my husband works at 75 & Campbell (Nortel). He has a super-easy commute, and we live in Sachse. We're right off Blackburn, which becomes Campbell road.

We aren't in Woodbridge, but I'm glad of it. If you're on the west side of 78 you don't have to deal with the traffic on 78 -- you just get on Campbell and head into Richardson. They are building a whole new subdivision right out here by our neighborhood; I don't know what it's called (it's finally not another extension of Woodbridge!) but I know Grand homes is one of the builders. Look in an area by Blackburn and Ingram roads for that one.

In Sachse watch out for the railroad; if you don't like train horns at night, stay a few miles away from the tracks. But otherwise I think buying off Campbell, in Sachse, was an excellent choice. Cheap house, nice neighborhood, and very easy to get into town. Couldn't afford Richardson, but this is the next best thing.
