Thanks Lakewooder. The drive certainly sounds stress free! Do any of you know if there are good daycares/pre-schools around? What are the typical daycares people choose in the DFW area? Thanks!

The most popular and well-regarded preschool in East Dallas is EDDC. However, they have a lengthy waitlist for some age groups, so you would definitely need to see what their availability is:

Lakewood Montessori is also wonderful and that's where my youngest went at age 3. It's a small school, and the teachers are fantastic.

Since you have a 3-year-old, you will find that there are many preschool options available, from Montessori to language immersion to the more traditional preK approach. My advice would be to choose something that's well-suited to your child's personality and not too far from your home.

robmab - thanks for the information. I looked up EDDC and Lakewood Montessori. I'll visit these and other schools after I figure out a place to live. I was pleasantly surprised though to see the lower tuition rates as compared to Minnesota. I was told out here the tuition rates are one of the highest in the nation but I didn't expect this big a difference. I'd be happy to save some money and get good education for my son at the same time!

I just thought I'd come back and give an update. I eventually went with a rental house in Southeast Plano. I found out that I would be working from home everyday so my wife and I decided to stay close to people we already knew in the area. Thanks for all your suggestions. I sure will checkout the East Dallas areas suggested here after I get settled in.

I just wanted to provide an update to my old thread because I finally got a chance to explore east Dallas this weekend. The area around White Rock Lake is STUNNING! It is truly amazing that such a beautiful and rustic looking area is that close to a large city. We immediately felt like moving into one of those lovely homes with large tree cover and a relaxing porch.
