Not only did prices go up, but affordable housing disappeared. Along Vanderbilt (I believe), there were many duplexes, they were bulldozed and McMansions were built. I think this happened along some neighboring streets as well.

Also, affordable small ranch homes were bought, bulldozed and ginormous homes were built - I can think of some lots on Merilee where this happened.

Very interesting read. I'm a bit surprised to see opposite trends in Allen and Frisco. Poverty rate in Frisco went down probably with all the growth and new development but in Allen which experiences similar growth it went dramatically up.

Since 2011, Lakewood Elementary has gained 121 white students, J. L. Long Middle School 84 white students and Woodrow Wilson High 93 white students.

No agenda with my post. Many of us have lived in the metroplex for decades and don't spend a ton of time outside our own "bubbles." My personal connection to many suburbs like Coppell, McKinney, and Mesquite is based on the football games and other UIL events from the mod-1990's when I was in high school. This blog post helped break down larger demographic trends into something tangible that I could connect with. It's one thing to read a DMN article about "black flight" to the suburbs; it's more tangible (for me, at least) to see that illustrated by seeing how XYZ school has changed since I was school-aged.

Lost in the hype about HP moving up a UIL classificiation was this: Dallas ISD schools will not opt up; Carter, Pinkston, Lincoln will ‘drop’ to Class 4A | Dallas Morning News

Historically black Lincoln HS is about half the size it was just a few years ago. Carter is also a largely black school...

Interesting is that farther south in Duncanville & Cedar Hill areas there has been a complete flip in demographics.

OK, thanks for expanding on your intentions. I too have lived in the area for decades. Guess I'm feeling like I've had a few too many demands to embrace diversity shoved at me lately.

I think if you would have read the rest of the post you might have caught the point of the post rather than cherry picking out one sentence.

Why don't you expand on your post? It sounds border line racist. I am sure that is not your point.

Thanks for posting. It is interesting how dramatically demographics have changed. Granted, 20 years is a long time.

I didn't realize Carroll MS in Southlake was only 77% white. Not that it matters, just proves I had a misconception and assumed it was around 90% like Highland Park. Nice to learn accurate demographics.
