My 5 year old kid is suffering from asthma and pneumonia from the time we moved to Dallas and was on steroids and antibiotics whenever he is sick and if was every alternate month and now recently it is so uncontrollable that he needs to be hospitalized almost very month from October till jan 2014.

He is all controller medicines he takes singular Zyrtec nasonex dulerA and albuterol with vest every day 2 times and nothing is helping him

He was a completely normal kid when we lived in St. Louis no asthma no medications nothing

We are planning to move Ou to asthma friendly places to Florida tampa.. Did any one move to this place or any place from Texas to Florida and did that help?

Any suggestions please.. It matters a lot to me..

Thank you

I wonder if it's your apartment or house. There could be mold in your walls/vent system etc. causing the issues.

We've been through this with our son.....

1. Do you live in a home with a pier and beam foundation?
2. Do you have old school cellulose attic and wall insulation? (gray stuff with no paper backing - look in your attic?)
3. Are your air ducts full of dust?

Does your kiddo use albuterol through a mister bag, or whatever it's called, or directly from the mister? It's maybe 10x better through the bag than not. Do you have a nebulizer?

Could be, but allergies are horrible here in general. OP's kid sounds a lot like what happened with mine when she was younger. Allergies would get out of control and she would get truly sick from them. I know the warning signs with her now and as soon as it seems to be starting up she has Claritin in the morning and Benedryl at night. That's just the formula that works for us. OP, as far as moving I've always understood that moving west was better for allergies. I feel for you and your child, it's a nasty cycle.

Thank you all for the reply... It helps a lot... We live in an apartment with carpet... And I get the vent filter changed every month... But the apartment is kind of old like 15 yrs might be... We are suspecting the dust bcoz our apartment just facing the road and we live on the ground floor even after keeping all the doors and windows closed the dust still gets in.... Planning to move to a new community with hard wood floors and see if that might help... Before moving out of the city but not able to decide....

Regarding the allergy test... We have an appointment with the asthma
Avery and immunologist on February 6 th... My pulmonologist did test him for +ve allergies and we found he is allergic to dust mines.... I indoor... Moving out of these apartments is in the to do list.... Hope that helps...

If he is allergic to dust mites hardwood floors might help. Also either buy him a new mattress or try covering his existing mattress with plastic and washing his bedding 2/3x per week.

Good luck.

That was another thing. We removed all the carpet from our home. Obviously not an option in an apartment, but there was a huge difference when we did. I have a dust mite allergy, too. It's hard to control. Best of luck to you.

Hate to break it to you, but my husband's family lives in Florida and they are also plagued with allergies. My son's allergist says the best place for severe allergy sufferers is in the north of the US.

Should I try changing the apartment from carpet to hardwood but still there is carpet in the bedrooms any idea about any apartments in Dallas area where I can find hardwood flooring apartments built recently with less pollution around ?I am trying my best I could find ones which are nes but less floor space.... Or since I feel the problem is in Dallas that it is a bad place off repitory problems should I move to Florida since I read it is a asthma friendl place? My pulmonologist says that herd are more chances for my kid to be asthmatic through his life since he is suffering so much ... I really really wing to avoid the oral steroids on him... It's been 2 years now and don't want to give him any more if steroids and anutbiotics... Any suggestions?
Once again i really appreciate your response.... Thank you so much....

Hardwood floors are better than carpet. Extra Vitamin D tends to help. You can have him tested. Darker skin kids tend to be vitamin D deficient, which can aggravate asthma.
