My wife and I are moving to McKinney at the end of the month from California and we are new to having to choose power options. Hoping to get some help....

Currently the listing agent said the home is on Coserv and from what I see it doesn't seem like I can use any other provider if that's the case? Is that correct? If not can anyone recommend a good provider?

If it is correct what am I looking at as an average utility bill for a 3000sqft. 2 story home for summer and winter?

The house we are leasing is in the Pine Ridge community if that helps.

Thank you in advance!

Steve

Power To Choose | Home

CoServe is not a provider but a wires owner. Use the link above to help find a provider.

I thought if you had CoServe, you had no option to choose. They do both gas and electricity.

You're correct. I screwed up. Assumed it was like other services.

My neighbors and I did some research on the cost of electricity in our McKinney neighborhood. Everyone's house was in the range of about 3000 sq. feet to 4000 sq feet. I had Reliant and my max bill in the summer with running AC full time was in the $300s. Our house was built in the late 90s. Our unit was original to the house. Never went into the $400-$500 monthly range some of my neighbors experienced. Several of my friends switched to Reliant and their bills went way down. My next door neighbor said his bill actually went down by over $200 when he switched to Reliant. I don't work for Reliant, I promise! But did a lot of research on this topic and feel it is my duty to share this info whenever possible

We've used Coserv before and your bill will depend to a large degree on what temperatures you keep your house at. My house which was slightly larger than yours ~3500 sq ft varied between $250-$350 and the temperature was generally kept at 79 downstairs and 85 upstairs.

CoServ have a lock on a few neighborhoods around the Stonebridge Ranch area where they are the only game in town. My parents have CoServ and weren't too happy that they could no longer choose a provider. CoServ rates are a bit higher than some other ones in the area, but not too excessive.

I would guess that your bill will be from $150-$250 if you keep the A/C around 78-80, but that depends greatly on how energy efficient the home is.
