Compared to other cities and neighborhoods, seems to have really cheap housing. It has a great central location in the metroplex. Whats the catch?

Really sad due to the city's reputation else its location can unlock so much potential for the city...

Housing there is small and old. Crime rate is fairly high, too. Retail is dominated by check cashing places, fast food, and low-end retail stores.

It had a bad rep way before that ban-illegals-from-renting proposition.

It actually is making a huge surge in sales and home prices. It's one of those inner city areas that's actually been very good in sales the last few years.

No surprise; due to its location it's ripe for gentrification. It needs it.

There are some clean, nice neighborhoods around Brookhaven Country Club, but I still wouldn't want to live there. The low-end retail, abundance of check cashing & payday loan stores, vacant retail & fast food dining options (as another poster already mentioned) is kind of how I generally think about Carrollton & Farmers Branch in general.

I do know a couple younger couples who moved to Brookhaven because they wanted to be as close to Dallas "south of 635" as possible, but didn't like the options in their price point, so FB ended up being an option that allowed them to get as close as possible.

Most of Farmers Branch is in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD but some of it is in DISD. The part in DISD is zoned to W.T. White: http://www.dallasisd.org/cms/lib/TX0.../White2013.pdf

So true and it's a beautiful area with the creeks, huge trees and parks.

People are discovering it's fantastic location. We are seeing a lot of money flowing back into FB.

In all of FB, there is only 42 homes & condos for sale. There are 53 homes under contract and 91 sold since Jan 1 0214.

The average Days on Market was 28 days for those sold homes.

Sounds like Farmers Branch is doing pretty darn good.
