My granddaughter is looking for an apartment in the Carrollton, Lewisville, Grapevine area. She needs a 1 bedroom and has a limited budget of around 600-700. Any recommendations as to a good area to live in with this limited budget?

Be careful. Those areas are very mixed and have some scary areas. In Carrollton, avoid anything on Rosemeade, and in Lewisville, anything east of 35. In Grapevine, avoid anything on Mustang Drive.

There are a number of fine neighborhoods on either side of Rosemeade throughout Carrollton. ChristieP is mistaken. There's no reason to regard them as "scary". I've lived in one of those neighborhoods for 20 years, and I've never found any cause for concern.

Apartments along Rosemeade are not good. The neighborhoods of houses are fine.

You must be talking about a different Rosemeade. I'm from Carrollton and you can't go wrong with most of the apartments on Rosemeade. If you're getting closer to Midway Rd. it's a little different but for the most part, they're not that bad.

In my quick opinion, Grapevine would be the 'safest' bet! Good luck to her.

I agree 100%. Not sure what is wrong with Rosemeade at all. There are 300K homes along the end just before it changes to Dickinson. Going the other direction, you have to go well past Josey before it gets close to sketchy. I would not hesitate to recommend that area for a single woman. Especially if she's got any sense and doesn't put herself in stupid situations that occur anywhere in the metroplex.

She really needs to get a roomate with that budget. It's too low. That, or find someone with a room for rent in a house. If she must live in one of those cities, I'd pick Grapevine.

Rosemeade is not a good area. Those apartments are cheap for a reason. They use to sell crack pipes and steel wool at the valero at Rosemeade and Midway, and there were always suspicious looking people walking up to cars when I use to live near there. I also witnessed an armed robbery at the Dollar General at Rosemeade and Marsh. I can't imagine it's gotten better.

Plus, you're stuck paying a toll to get anywhere around there.

*well past Josey. Yes, it gets worse towards Dallas. Which is where you are talking about.
