Taking a trip to texas for about 3 months. Anyone here in their mid-20s use meetup.com? What's been your experience using the site?

I'm looking for fitness groups mostly but if I happen to love it then I'll gladly branch out and do more.

I used Meetup A LOT when I first moved here a year ago. I loved it. Groups for anything you can think of, and met a lot of cool people. Some are strange, but lots are not. I suggest joining

I've used it from time to time, but as you might guess, it tends to attract some social oddballs. At the end of the day, it is essentially a site for people who don't have friends to make friends. That is naturally going to self-select for some "interesting" folks. There also seemed to be a bit of an underlying "find a mate" motive with some meetups.

However, I did have fun at a few meetups, and there were some normal people as well. It's worth checing out, especially as a new person.

It is true that there are some weirdos on Meetup. Use good judgement obviously, because yes some people are there because they cannot make friends otherwise.

However, it is an excellent way to start meeting people when you are new in town. Look for the ones that are titled as such. That is what I used it for and it was great.

I went to a few when I first moved here. At the last one I went to, I met a fellow who said he was a fortune teller that was looking for a full time job. I laughed thinking he was trying to be funny. He was being serious and I never went to another one again.

If you are looking for fitness groups that involve running, look into the dallas running club or pub run series social run.

I'm not sure if you'll be toward Fort Worth at all, but Fort Worth Social Running is a well-organized group with cool people. They run every Wednesday along the Trinity Trails and usually get drinks/socialize afterward. They used to be on Meetup, but now they just use their own site: https://socialruns.com/

Hey jdallas!

I actually went ahead and joined that club because I'm looking to do some cardio. That and this sprinters club I found on there. I'm kind of nervous/cautious, but hopefully it works out well.

I hope the ones I joined aren't "find a mate" in motive. I'm really not that kind of girl so I'd like to avoid it if I can.

Thank you. I'll check them out too. I think Forth Worth area might be a little further out.

There are female groups designated to fitness/socializing that you may enjoy. I joined one that did weekend jogs at the Katy Trail, HH's, Piyo, and shopping. It was fun, still friends with some of those girls.
