I have been living in this apartment complex in Irving, TX for the last year. My lease is up and i am transferring to a two bedroom apartment in the same complex. They have a $100 dollar deposit per room so i have a $200 dollar deposit to make with them due to moving from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom. I paid a previous deposit for them of $805 dollars. They are saying that its company policy to charge me $400 dollars to transfer my lease! I'm not seeing how that is possible to where i have to pay a transfer fee when all i am doing is resigning my lease for a 2 bedroom apartment. I am trying to weave my way around it because on top of that i have to pay a 200 dollar deposit on which i get back. Now 400 dollars extra just to move apartments sounds pretty insane especially if i have to pay a deposit and the 400 dollars goes to nothing. Im trying to figure out why i have to pay 400 dollars for a transfer fee. Has anyone ever dealt with a situation like this? Any thought would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If your lease is up, just tell them you don't want to renew. Walk outside and go back in saying you are interested in a 2 bedroom apt. No transfer needed.
Seriously, it's ridiculous. The transfer charge usually only applies if you are breaking your current lease.
