I hate to say this but builders contracts do not include completion dates so they don't have to perform by a specific date.

Have they at least applied for the building permit? Have you had your pre-construction meeting?

Most builders contracts have a clause that gives them up to 2 years to build a home. Kind of standard. With that said, 6 months without a start, unless they are still waiting on city acceptance for the lots, is crazy.

After reading that this is a Grand Home, cut your loses now and get out. This is only the beginning of the problems. Sure you have money tied up in getting the house built. That is nothing compared to how much you are going to have tied up in this house that could have major issues and you can not sell it.
