My family is relocating to the DFW area and we've decided upon Coppell for its convenience to downtown for commute, great schools, community, and generally central location. In addition to the wealth of information from internet research, I have been examining these forums for some time and found that people have offered great insight into the DFW communities and daily living in that really benefit those relocating from afar.

As such, I would greatly appreciate any advice, praise, cautions or opinions that you all may have on the schools within the Coppell ISD as well as the neighborhoods making up the area.

Reading these forums, I've seen some differing opinions on what elementary schools some suggest avoiding, but the information was somewhat dated. I do not believe I have seen similar discussions about the middle schools and am very interested in that, too.

It appears that we ought to be concentrating on the East and North, but I've read so many facts and figures that it's all starting to jumble in my head. I know that other peoples' experiences and opinions (good and bad) can be invaluable to fleshing out what a lot of numbers means and would appreciate any comments. Thank you.

Coppell is the place where almost everyone decides to look when moving to DFW because of it's schools and location.

It's a small town of about 37k people and has homes in every price range from $200k to $2M. There are not that many homes in any one price range to choose from. Cities like Flower Mound would not exist if those 120k people could have bought a home in Coppell.

There is a huge shortages of homes in Coppell depending on your price and you usually can't be too picky.

Just make sure you are in the Coppell ISD. Not all parts of Coppell are.

What I'm saying is don't limit all your options.

Texas has ISDs that don't match city or county lines. Check the address against the ISD database. I live in Little Elm, Denton County and am zoned to Frisco ISD which is primarily in Collin Co.

Thank you for the responses. Putting aside whether there are cities other than Coppell that may have good schools and more broadly available inventory, I'm looking to learn more about people's knowledge and experiences with homes/neighborhoods within the Coppell ISD and what people think or have experienced in the schools (elementary and middle) within the Coppell ISD and the developments therein.

I've lived in Coppell since 2008 and have kids in elementary school in the district. I think the schools are all pretty equal from a quality perspective so there isn't really a bad choice. I think Wilson probably has the most economically diverse student body b/c of a little pocket, but also draws from some very very nice neighborhoods too and parents really like that school. Lee elementary And valley ranch elementary are also a bit different as they are in the Irving city limits with Coppell schools. You didn't indicate home budget but my recommendation would be to look in the city of Coppell within the Coppell isd boundary and go with the house that best fits your needs. If you have questions on a specific neighborhood feel free to ask.

Thank you very much, New2aus. That is comforting information regarding the schools. I did not indicate budget since I did not want to exclude anyone's comments on any area as I am happy to learn as much about the area as possible, That said, we're looking to spend btw 450k to 650k.

I am curious about the inside Coppell versus outside Coppell (Irving) homes within the ISD the commute to downtown Dallas is a factor. All things being arguably equal school-wise (assuming Coppell ISD), what are the reasons to concentrate on being within Coppell's city limits versus in a Coppell ISD school outside of Coppell. I'm just looking to be better informed. Right now, we seem to be more interested in homes that are all inside Coppell, but the more information we have, the more informed we can be in making decisions.

Again, thank you.

We love living in Northlake Woodlands and the friends of mine with children love Mockingbird Elementary and East Middle School. Houses pop up from time to time and your budget will work easily. The problem is houses go so fast - so if you see something - jump on it. It is easy to get to 35E for the downtown commute from either Beltline or Sandy Lake Rds out of the neighborhood.

If you drive through the Valley Ranch (but zoned CISD) and then drive through Coppell, I think you will see/feel a difference and if not, then go with where you can find a home that you love. Valley Ranch has a ton of apartment complexes which (to me) detracts from the neighborhood feeling that Coppell has.

Valley Ranch is fine, but the lots tend to be smaller (and Coppell's lots are already small), there are more apartments, and there is a very large Indian community. That last point is most definitely not meant to be a "con" but it might sway buyers one way or another. Coppell itself has a large Indian community, but it is definitely more concentrated in Valley Ranch. Our new neighbors across the street moved from Valley Ranch to Coppell proper because they liked their old neighbors but still felt a little isolated.

Agree with others that the schools are relatively equal and it shouldn't really sway you one way or another--or at least it shouldn't eliminate any homes.

Not to be a dissenting voice but I've lived in Dallas for 12 years and am not a huge fan of Coppell. I think it's highly overrated on this forum. There are great schools throughout the metroplex. Have you visited Coppell personally? I would before choosing to live there. I large portion of the city is situated off highly congested and busy highways that are not family friendly. With your price range and desire for proximity to Dallas I'd look at areas districted to highland park schools. I think you'd be much happier in those areas than Coppell. The city is itself very small and most of the neighboring cities are not great neighborhoods. I'd also suggest utilizing neighborhoodscout.com to flesh out crime rates for any area your considering.

Last I checked the $450k-650k section of HPISD is.... well it doesn't actually exist, unless the OP wants a smaller condo/townhouse. If OP wanted a townhouse or condo, I doubt they'd have been looking at Coppell, as that's primarily comprised of single family housing.
