Anyone have any recommendations to a close to one stop shopping location to get some good deals on furniture? We will be moving into a 2600 sqft 3bed/3bath and will need to furnish the place almost with completely new furniture. Any good places in the DFW with good prices, inventory, and reliable sales with delivery? I only have heard of rooms to go and nebraska furniture mart. Are these two reliable or should I be looking elsewhere? Also, what type of budget should we be looking at to furnish a size this big?

Thanks!

Default Ikea

I would personally go to yard sales and Craigslist but IKEA would be an option.

Both RTG and NFM are reliable. I would budget $10K for an entire house including appliances, lamps, some wall art. I would also look at The Dump, Craigslist and some consignment stores if I had time.

Years ago, in Omaha, Ne, I bought a lot of furniture from Nebraska F.M. And they were negotiable -- they "threw in" lamps and an area rug.

$10K just might do the living room.

If you like modern but don't want IKEA, Modani has a good selection with reasonable prices.

What's your budget and style?

You need to set your budget first. RTG is a lower end furniture store. You can buy an entire "leather" sectional there for $1k, but the quality is far below what you'll find at a place like Bassett or Ethan Allen.

The low end stores in the area are RTG, Ashley, IKEA, etc. They'll have some stuff extending into the mid range as far as quality and price, but most stuff is cheap. Nebraska Furniture Mart has a lot of cheap stuff as well, though they do also carry some higher end stuff too.

Your main living area sofa and bedroom set (things you use constantly) shouldn't be cheap. If you buy cheap, you'll only have to replace them after a year or two. My gf (now wife) back in the day bought a living room set for $1k at Ashley Furniture. Included the sofa and loveseat, coffee table, and two side tables. We don't have any of that crap anymore, after only two months, the sofa was no longer usable, the cushions sagged and it would literally hurt your back to try and sit on it for any length of time. Very cheaply made, but you get what you pay for.

Set a budget and THEN figure out what you can afford to purchase.

Hint: NEVER buy "bonded leather" furniture. That's vinyl with cheap leather glued to the back.

Personally, I would look on Craig's List. You can get good deals from people moving away who don't/can't take their big furniture and are trying to sell it cheaply.

Try estate sales (not to confuse with garage sales) in affluent neighborhoods, my friend recently bought lightly used but really high end furniture for formal living and dinning from an older couple near Gleneagles Country Club. That couple was selling everything and moving to California to retire near their children. It would cost my friend four times more if he tried to buy it new from a store.

I would look at Wayfair especially the Birch collection.

Thanks for all of the advice! As of now, we're thinking 17k to furnish the entire place (no appliances, but will need mattresses and decorations for 2600 sqft 3bed/3bath with an office and patio). At this price point should we stick to RTG/NFM level of furniture? Is it true about the quality of the furniture there? I have also heard bad things about the service these stores provide. I'm not too familiar with the higher end brands but it seems that at our budget it might be a bit out of our range.
