Yep! AFAIK most Japanese expats in the US send their kids to local public schools as they are English-speaking. As a result there are few all-day Japanese-style schools in the US (They are only in the New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles areas and Guam). Compare that to the Japanese communities in China and Southeast Asia, where the majority of Japanese send their kids to Japanese full day schools and/or English-language international schools.

The list of schools attended by Japanese School of Houston students show that US private schools aren't that big with the Japanese (Note that Wilson Montessori is actually a public school, so it was mislabeled): http://www.jeihouston.org/localschool_m.htm - On that list there are three JEI students at Awty (the Houston equivalent of Dallas International)

Yes, I've heard that the number of expats sent from abroad has declined a lot from the late 1980s. As a result, the number of wives and children sent from abroad decreased. That's why many Japanese boarding high schools have closed: there used to be two in the U.S., one in New York and one in Tennessee, but only the New York one is still open and remains the only school in the Americas with a Japanese-style high school program. There were also such closures in Europe and Australia.

However the numbers of Japanese expats in cities with thriving/increasing Japanese presences seem to have increased. The Japanese (Weekend) School of Dallas had 400 students in 2014, and they expected to get 150 more students because of Toyota http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/local...8/21/14232184/ (although some of their students are U.S. citizens and permanent residents)

You don't do that by stacking a bunch of expat Japanese in the ranks. Only a few superstars you expect to carry the culture and moving up in the company and need experience is what is likely their biggest market.

When we were house hunting back at the end of 2014, we were looking in McKinney, Frisco, Plano, and Prosper. We went to several open houses during that time and we ran into groups of Toyota people several times. They'd come into town in groups of 8-10 people, they'd rent a minivan or two, and they were going from open house to open house in the above areas. We happened to show up at the same time to an open house as the Toyota people twice and the realtors thought we were with Toyota too, so I'm guessing this group "touring" was pretty common.

Not sure where they ended up obviously, but they were doing their home searching in all the above areas.
