Yup.

Given that the golf course view can command $100k more for the house, why on earth would you try to put a garage there?

The whole point of building the home there was the view and course access.

This. I have worked for builders for 15 years. Lots have gotten smaller, and smaller every year. If we did rear entry now, in the mid price range(300-400) where the average lot these day is maybe 50 x 120 if you are lucky, their would be very little back yard left.
