Husband and I just started the building process a few weeks ago & went through a builder. They have different houses to pick from with each having different elevations. One of the houses we picked has the elevation with 3 peaks. Anyway, husband went by the site to see the progress because they said they got done framing. Well the insulation is up & they finished the roof. They completely started the wrong house we signed for on the contract. They built elevation one instead of elevation 3 like we picked. Which was in our oversized lot we paid for. What happens in these situations? Can they still fix it? It's pretty early in the building process & we're pretty pissed.. we don't know what to do.

1. They rip out and start over. If there is not brick and stone left, they should be willing to do that.
2. Offer some incentive if you stay with elevation mistake.
3. Move you to another lot and start over.

If you just started the process a few weeks ago, thats really very quick to have the house and roof on.
Who is the builder? Did you pick the lot, plan, etc?

they are building a community, no other homes but models and we are the first to buy a lot. All they have done is insulation and started the roofing, thats how we noticed it looked different. We picked everything for that house. The builder is Altura homes.

I visited my house at least weekly while it was being built. During that time, I found that they:
  • didn't frame for ac/heat in my lower level
  • they put a full wall where there was to be a railing only
  • they put a full wall where there was to be a window
Each time, they offered me a discount to leave it as it was. I told them it was not what I wanted and that they should take it down and redo it. Maybe it was because I caught these things as they were "going up" but, in each case, they corrected it.

Read your contract. It should lay out the floor plan, elevation and placement on lot. Hope it works out.
