Suggestions for a guy who isn't rich or well off? Streets? Names of apartments?etc.

North East Dallas seems to have a bit better and safer reputation.

it's not in NE Dallas proper, but there are some affordable apartments in Garland on Beltline and Shiloh called Advenir at Town Center. They have one bedrooms for under $600/mo. the complex itself isn't anything special, but its a safe part of town.

South of Lover's Lane between Greenville and Skillman - University cuts through. SMU Shuttle (anyone can use), DART station, Central Market, 2 minutes from Central Expressway or Northwest Highway, close to Lakewood, White Rock Lake, Downtown and all the fun on Lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson

If your looking for an area thats really quiet there is a complex in Mesquite located near HWY 80 and Northwest that is really pretty nice. This one would be located on the east side of 80 and tuck in a residential area. Most people would have no idea its their.
