Hi all,

Stumbled across this forum while trying to mine data on the different areas in DFW.

My family and I will be relocating to DFW area in December and I am still so confused on areas to live - Hoping you all could assist and guide us in the right direction.

We are looking at either, 1. Valley Ranch, 2. Frisco, 3. Plano, 4. Allen

Family - I will be relocating with my family - Wife and 3 young boys 10 years, 7 years and 4 years hence our priority is a highly rated elementary school

Work - I will be working in Farmers Branch. Read a lot about Dallas traffic hence would prefer nearby. I do not mind a bit more of a commute for myself in lieu of the perfect area to live for the family.

Area - We are a young family and would like an area with fairly modern housings with parks and entertainments (restaurants, coffee shops, etc).
While we would like a nice quiet suburb we also don't want to be bored to death and have to leave the area for some entertainment

Kids entertainment - Which would be the best area for kids? Outdoors, walks, bicycle etc.

Safety - Always a big concern with young family.

PS: I have searched some of the other postings with similar request but they all seem many years ago. i am sure a lot has changed in the city over the past years so a fresh update would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

If I had to pick I would go with Frisco and Plano for a family. Allen is very nice but the commute would be much longer.

Valley Ranch really does not fit your lifestyle. It's more smaller homes and IMO not what you seek. It does have a great location.

Depending on your price range... do a search on here for Castle Hills. A large Master Planned Community with pools and activity centers. It's actually in Lewisville and has good schools. Make sure you stay in the section that goes to Hebron High School.

Unless you're south Asian and want to be close to a particular group (or temple), I'd skip Valley Ranch. Nix Allen for commuting reasons. Focus on Plano & Frisco.

What about Coppell? Or far north Dallas that is zoned to Plano ISD? The houses in both areas are a bit older but they don't have that generic, sterile feel that the newer parts of Frisco and Plano have. Frisco to Farmers Branch would also be a long and expensive commute. The part of Carrollton that feeds to Hebron HS would also be a good option.

Oh, I would steer over to Hebron High School Attendance zone; a great family area and good commute to FB.
