Would you buy a newer (not brand new) upgraded home (in a luxury subdivision) on a small lot located next to power, cell, water towers or one in a nice (but not as luxurious subdivision) nearby without all those eyesores but older and less upgraded home on a bigger lot? Location, price, schools etc are all the same.

I think it would depend on how far away from the power lines. The water tower doesn’t bother me. Curious, are you looking at Edgestone at Legacy community?

I agree. Water tower or cell tower isn’t an issue. I wouldn’t care about the power lines, but they would likely be an issue for resale.

To me, newer isn't better than older, so there's no contest.

What's the problem with the water tower? Is it just the view? I think there is a negligible risk of it being a target for destruction or leakage.

Resale.. But if all you care about is getting a great deal.. And you actually CAN geat a Really great deal it may be worth a shot. As long as power/Cell tower isn't too close older kids should be fine.

Resale is a killer for homes next to a water tower. I saw it during our last house search... found a really nice house, pictures looked great, price was fantastic, and the house had everything we wanted, including some things that were really cool that weren't on the list, like an elevator.

But... walk outside into the backyard and you've got a water tower dominating your vision. It's not something you can block with a fence, and if you're really close, you might not be able to hide it with mature trees either, which would take forever to grow besides.

In the end we passed, and understood why the price was so low compared to comparable homes. Sure, there will be someone out there who won't mind buying a home like that, but it's definitely a turnoff to a lot of buyers.
