My average electricity usage for home is 1800 kwh in last 12 months and 1900 kwh in last 18 months with peak usage of 2790 kwh and least usage of 940 kwh. I am with Reliant and not in contract any more. I am in 75230 zip code in Dallas.

My renewal rate for fixed term plan is 18.2 - 18.4 cents per kwh for 36 - 48 months, 19.4 cents for 24 months and 20.9 cents for 12 months.

What plan should I choose? 1000 kwh or 2000 kwh

I have been to various websites like powertochoose and comparepower. Every site recommends something different and now I am lost as what to choose - 1 2months, 24 months, 36 months, 48 months and which power company to choose?

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I have Spark Energy. Their rates are competitive and their contracts are straight forward and easy to understand. I also received a $100 rebate for being a first time customer.

The energy company should be stable so that it does not go belly up during peak winter leaving me scrambling to find new electricity company and plan.

The best rates for 36 months are from Gexa Energy, Value Power and Discount Power.
Others are Frontier Utilities, Clean Sky, TruPowur

All of them are giving rates between 12.1 cents to 12.3 cents fixed for 3 years with $200 - $400 cancellation fees

Any one using these companies?

Use 'search this forum' on the top right corner of the webpage. Tons of results will pop up. I'm sure you will find many of the previous threads very beneficial.

I am also in the same boat needing to pick. I see the "fact sheets" on the Power To Choose site.

I see 500/1000/2000 and a value for each. So if I'm 0-1000 it's one per-cent cost, 1001-2000 another, and then 2000-above it's another? I see the rate for the highest usage be the cheapest. Am I reading this right?

I also see that even when something is "fixed" (and my understanding is always go fixed) it can still theoretically be changed if the TX board says so?

Any discernable difference between the billers? My understanding is that it's all one actual provider anyway, right?

I'm looking at 24 months with Value Power which seems like a good balance between locked in long enough but not too long. It's my first time so I have no real earthly idea how much power my fiancee and I will use in our first house together.

I've always had TXU. They were there before deregulation, so they aren't going anywhere. All of these sales companies are going to get you somewhere.

None of them is an electric company. They're sales companies. The electric company is Oncor.

Some ares have the advantage of not being part of this scheme. They're in co-ops.

Oncor is the regulated transmission and distribution company for the area. Oncor does not generate or sell electricity. Oncor gets paid regardless of who sells you power.
