Now we just need more snow...lol

But seriously, the Regional Transportation Council for North Texas and select cities will work together to decide where in DFW to build these.
Anyone wanting more public transportation options around DFW may have something to look forward to as cities will soon begin discussing the possible implementation of Google-developed high-tech gondolas in congested areas around the metroplex.
The company says their gondolas combine an autonomous cabin with lightweight, fixed cable infrastructures that moves passengers at a lower cost and with fewer carbon emissions than traditional transportation alternatives.

What do you think?

I have extreme doubts that the cost would actually be lower unless they are ignoring the cost to actually build/maintain them.

Those things work pretty well at the State Fair, but I really don't see them as a viable solution in the city. They are also not usable during high winds or storms.

How many people can one of those seat? Four? Six?

What happens if they break down with people inside?

This kind of thing is fun in a Disneyworld-esque way but not sure about actually riding them to get around.

Gondolas are actually used in some major cities in South America for public transport, though they usually involve some amount of elevation changes rather than a more flat place like DFW.

One thing in their favor is that they're relatively inexpensive for transportation infrastructure.

This is interesting. Anyway I think Dallas should continue to improve their existing modes of public transportation instead of these things.

I was literally sitting thinking about Frisco and the intersection of 121 and the Dallas north tollway. I was saying to myself, they need a way for people to be able to park and bounce between the areas without having to drive. I was thinking along the lines of some type of tram similiar to what we have at the airport, but this concept could work as well. Downtown/uptown could use this as well connecting Victory Park to West Village, etc.
