I am looking to purchase a condo south of Downtown Dallas. Does any one have information on the Government Subsidy homes? It seems odd that they would build $350,000 condos in that area. Please let me know.

If you really want to be south of Dallas you might check out the builder auction of new homes going on in Mansfield. I just read in todays Dallas Morning News about it. Might be worth checking out. In the LOOOOONG run your going to get more back when you sell from a home vs a condo in most cases especailly in the Dallas area.

I wonder why homes in that area are not doing well? Bad quality or is it just too far out there?

I'd say some of all of that and more. This is an area that probably was hit hard by the subprime loans and people buying homes that should have been looking at a lower priced home to start with. The location is also a major factor in that it is not close to where most jobs are or at least higher paying jobs.

I was thinking the exact same thing.
Or even Fair Park area? Around Exposition and Commerce?

If that's the case then it's a HUD home and they have a website with all their foreclosures.

City of Dallas is working on a subsidy plan for condos under 200K - not sure of the specifics or the boundaries. The other problem is that there is not much available at that price.
