only problem is that March in the Hill Country can mean bad weather--rain--or even late bout of pretty cold weater
My son was married in early March of 08 at Lake Travis and that weekend in DFW area we had SNOW--our daughter was flying in from FL and had flights cancelled like crazy--she finally wound up flying in to Austin...
weather for the wedding was nice--fairly balmy--but frankly it was just luck...

but I too would not suggest that any family take Spring Break trip to Gulf Coast...

That's true. Weather across Texas could do anything that time of year.

South Padre is cool - but has the college crowd for Spring Break. Rockport is good for families. All-inclusive ? Not so sure about that one. There are condo's you can rent for a week. Rockport is great for families as it is quieter and the beach is more geared towards families. Port Aransas would be neat too, but again, there is that whole college, younger crowd around spring break. You may want to try a realtor in either area who advertises vacation rentals.

Yes, SOUTH Padre Island is "THE" place for college spring breakers. Up towards NORTH Padre in and around all coastal areas of Corpus which includes: North Padre, Port Aransas, Rockport, etc is NOT "college" crowds during Spring Break. This is a MUCH MORE family area since there are no clubs or beach parties for them to hang out. During Spring Break you get a few area or close by college students whose parents would not allow them to go to South Padre or they are underage still (under 21 and no good fake ID). They tend to stay on Mustang Island during the day as there is no lodging right on Mustang Island. Where they are at night is probably one of the cheaper hotels/motels in Corpus. All of the condos along the coast in North Padre, Port A, etc are reserved in advance by FAMILIES usually w/ small kids. Trust me, I was there this past Spring Break for the first time in 25 years. Back then there were a LOT more college kids. This time - hardly ANY!

My son took his family to San Antonio for spring break a few years ago and loved it. There is a Six Flags park and Sea World. Then in New Braunfels just 20 minutes north is Schlitterbahn . If your kiddos are a little older then there is the Guadalupe . However, the Guadalupe might have too many college partiers on it.

We've camped at Canyon of the Eagles and it is way out of the way. They do have the Vannishing Texas River Cruise which was enjoyable. But not much for little ones to do. If you love to go camping around Burnet (pronounced "burn it") then it's Inks Lake. Lots for kiddos to do. And free WIFI too so you can keep in touch with us! Also, no fishing license required if fishing from the shore line of a state park! How cool is that!

I just remembered that Inks lake does have a 9 hole golf course right on the lake. I don't golf so the thought was slow in coming. Also, Enchanted Rock is just a 30 minute drive away, and Longhorn Caverns is just a few minutes south of Inks Lake. If you're RVing and planning on staying a few days, bring your tote tank because it's not full hook-ups. Also, Inks Lake books up pretty quick so make reservations way in advance.

Great point about Texas weather in spring as it is sometimes a coin toss with what you will get.
But heading to the hill country is worth the risk -- If you get iced or weathered in that makes for great family time

Why don't you consider South Padre Island? Rent a place on the beach at Saida Towers, go golfing at the course over in Laguna, much better trip with kids.

NOT during Spring Break. People w/ families and little kids AVOID SPI during Spring Break.
