OP the federal govt doesn't care where you live when applying so give them a consideration. USAJOBS.com is the fed govt job site for all vacancies. The posting will indicate if relocation will be paid or not...in most cases NOT!

^ Good advice. I had just recently stumbled across that link. I filled out several positions in the DFW area with the US government. I figured they'd probably take 3x as long as a local, private employer to process the applications. They probably get considerably more submissions as well. I'm not going to quit.

We are going to up and leave California either way and hope for the best. Got enough savings to live for 9 months. There are jobs out there and Texas has not been hit as bad like the rest of the country...yet.
Hey guys, consider this. Well, it may not work, if you don't know anyone in the area, but, I use family and friends addresses to put on my resumes, when I email. That way, I have a "local" address, thus, I'm hoping, I'll get somewhere. (Doing this for other states also...hee hee) My thinking is, when they see an out of state address, that will, put you at the back of the heap, as opposed, to someone local.

Default Still Looking

My husband got a job here last fall with the Federal Government (they paid for relocation) . I started looking for a job 5 months ago, got one in March, got laid off 2 weeks later, and am still looking. I've found that there is a lot of competition for jobs here, even with a local address. I've been in your position, looking for a job from afar, and it is most definitely a negative. I wish you well.
