I moved here from Chicago too and used to laugh about how they close everything down for an inch of snow. After last Christmas, I see why. They don't salt the roads, kind of just wait for it to melt. Problem is when it melts and gets cold enough to freeze again... black ice everywhere. Horrible. Unfortunately for the husband and I our jobs don't close down for snow. The less snow I see in Dallas, the better. I'll go up and visit Chicago during the winter to satisfy my snow craving. I'll get the pretty scenery and the streets there are more drive-able after snowfalls than they are down here. I do miss the feeling of being holed up all warm and cozy in our condo after a big snowfall, but I don't want to deal with that stuff from November-April every year.

Usually yes, but you won't have much time. They can usually pick up the hail on radar, but it's pretty impossible(currently) to predict exactly where it will hit and how big it will be.

You should move to Phoenix if you like the heat so much. I'm sure you would love it there.
