Its been a few years since I have been there so things may have changed. Good campling area, good swimming, the falls are interesting, a few hiking trails, it is hilly and will make you forget about being in the flatlands of Dallas.

I don't know how hotel/dining accomadations are.

It used to a be a wonderful place. However.....things have changed quite a lot. It's extremely crowded and trashy and not well-kept since the city took it over. The people in charge don't enforce any rules about who gets what camping spot, how people behave. It's still a good place to hike but I would not want to stay there at all any more. There are nice motels/hotels/restaurants in town, just a few miles away, though.

It is not worth it. You will be disappointed. Try Krause Springs near Austin for a cool weekend "naturey" trip. Nice camping, clear spring fed pool and they have a rope swing into river/swimming hole, just a really cool place.

LOL. I read something similar on Trip Advisor when I was looking into visiting the area.

I enjoyed Krause Springs a few years ago. We stayed in Austin and drove out for the day.

Btw - my DH and son camped at Turner Falls about 7-8 yrs ago. They were hiking and took a dip into a creek in the area and came out of the water with small black bugs or leeches all over them. Sounded really horrible.

I hate to hear that. It has been 10 years since I camped there and it was a good experience. There were park rangers stopping everyone who was outside their campgrounds and drinking beer. They made you pour the beer out on the ground. It was okay to drink at your camping area, but if you went to the restroom - no beer bottles. And that was okay with me.
