My 9 yr old has been having these symptoms from last 2 yrs where around August timeframe she starts to get this bad annoying itch in her throat and has to clear her throat every few minutes by one cough, nothing comes out though. Her pediatrician put her on allegra, zyrtec, Nasonex and above all Albutrol but nothing seems to take these symptoms away. She doesn't seem to have any other symptoms like watery eyes or nose etc. Anyone else had similar symptoms? Is it ragweed in this season?

Yes, it is ragweed. She needs to start the meds PRIOR to her allergies flaring up. Albuterol won't help as it is for asthma. If she were not taking the meds she would probably have the other symptoms.

Additionally, meds like Claritin and Nasonex require a full two weeks to take maximum effect. My ragweed allergies are horrible but with the Nasonex I hardly notice them.

Correct.

Mine haven't hit yet. I'm almost afraid to say that. I usually have to take my prescription allergy med, Singulair and then Benedryl on top of it. Benedryl is the only thing that gets rid of the itchy stuff on me.

Are her allergies strictly seasonal?

Go to a pediatric allergist for testing and then immunization. Both my son and I had bad respiratory allergies and went through the immunization. I didn't hardly sneeze for 10 yrs, he was cured. Mine slowly crept back after the 10 yrs but then I loved away and didn't bother with re-testing. I guess I will have to if I move to Plano as planned.

Your child more than likely is allergic to ragweed. I suffer badly from it! Ragweed starts the second week of August and continues until we get our first frost (32 degrees) which kills it. The worst months are September and October.

The best advice I can give is to take her to an allergist in your area and have her tested to see what she is allergic to... this can be done with a simple skin prick test. After that, the allergist can recommend what to do. Worse case is she can go through immunotherapy, which is basically getting shots of a ragweed serum... or a serum of what she is allergic to.
