How much do you want to spend and do you know where you will be working?

I am looking to spent between $300K -$400K(max). I don't know where I'll be working.

I see, well if you want to move to the north dallas suburbs, you can do very well in that range in Allen, Frisco and Mckinney and maybe Plano.

Rent for the short term, at least until you have employeement. Then start looking for a home. You will not want to spend time you could be at home with your wife, sitting on highway.

"i would like to be around where things are happening and where people overall are young. i am not looking for a sleepy town".

Then you need to be in Central Dallas - I would also suggest renting until you find your job - the most happening areas are Uptown, Downtown, Knox-Henderson and Lower Greenville - around Knox-Henderson and Lower Greenville are also great places to buy as there is a lot of redevelopment going on there - it's also close to DART light rail and the revamped Central Expressway.

Central Dallas is the only place anyone moving to Dallas needs to consider.

Just ask Lakewooder, he'll tell you.
