Does anyone on here think the DFW area is overrated? If so, why?

Overrated in terms of what..and who?

It is what is it is - warm weather, low cost of living, great suburbs, fun cities (fort worth and dallas) for the younger crowd - as long as they know where to go!, not bad traffic, *great* sports teams hehe.

I think what it's missing is the mountains and beaches - if it had that, it would be perfect!

Yeah wouldn't that be something. To really appreciate the mountains in the Metroplex, you would need to see them by bicycle. There's Mt. Richardson, Mt Addison, the mountains around White Rock Lake and Joe Pool Lake.

Most of things people say here about DFW is not overrating it.

What is overrated? The talk here about the way people drive in DFW. A lot of people here claim the driving is wonderful here, but my wife and I, both of our experiences thus far (Since moving here in November) is that the driving is horrible all across the metro. Much worse overall than the SF Bay Area where we came from. Neither of us have gone a stretch of even 3 days without a near accident happening as a result of some idiot doing something idiotic.

That doesn't even take into account people giving me dirty looks when I haven't done anything wrong (and sometimes when they are in the wrong!), but I am willing to concede that it could be because my vehicle still has CA plates while my wife's vehicle has TX plates.

Saying a place is overrated is like say 'boy I really screwed up moving here'.

I hear tho' that the beaches were really nice until... you know... global warming made them evaporate so now all we get is snow.

I love the new ski resort opening near Weatherford. I hear it's owned by the same group that owns Steamboat.

It's the one thing that's been needed to make DFW just about perfect.

Lived in the Midwest and spent time on the east coast but over all, Texas is a great place to live IMHO; always somewhere to go and things to do...it's a BIG state to explore.
