Default rockwall to bonham commute???

i am interested in working at a VA hospital in Bonham, TX but living in Rockwall, TX. Googlemaps says it's a 1 hour drive. Has anyone ever driven this before? i know of some 1 hr drives that are so peaceful and traffic-free they seem more like 30min. I also know of some 30 min drives that seem like 1hr. My family and I are sold on Rockwall and can't think of a place closer to Bonham than this. It has great schools, the lake, close to Dallas, etc. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx.

I can understand why you like Rockwall, we love it too. There are a couple of way to get to Bonham from Rockwall, and I think that one hour is close. There are some roads like highway 78 that are only 2 lanes until you get to 121 which may cause you to take a little longer.

I don't know which route googlemaps gave you but I would suggest 205 to 78 to 121 into Bonham.

I live in Mesquite and do a 55 minute commute to Plano everyday. I would make the drive from Rocwall to Bonham with no problem.

I'm thinking it will be over an hour each way - 53 miles each way, rural roads.

Agreed.....you'll need to allow an hour and a half - when you get behind a load of hay or a tractor on a 2-lane road you're there as long as they are.....they will pull over for you when they can but sometimes it's miles before there's a safe place to pull off. Also, I don't know where you've been living, but in Texas we have very little road equipment that can handle snow and ice, especially in the rural areas, so there will be times when it will be impossible or at least very unsafe to make the drive. Most of the commuters I know keep a packed bag in their car in case they have to spend the night.

Default melissa, tx?

it doesn't look like rockwall will be doable. what do y'all think of Libery in Melissa, TX? we are interested in master-planned communities (small kids who need friends and good schools/amenities). we need to be 30-45min. away from bonham, tx. any other suggestions besides Liberty? Thanx

maybe move to bonham?

You dont need a master planned community to raise kids. And Im sure they will find friends there just like anywhere else.

No 'master planned' communities in Bonham but a couple of nice areas with families that have children....Country Club Village, just off 121, just a few blocks from the elementary school and shopping (which, I'm sorry to say, means WalMart). Also, Arbor Creek and Pecan Steets (south off of Hwy 82) and Legacy Ridge Golf Community, off Pecan behind Legacy Ridge Golf Club.....all very near the VA and Brookshire's Grocery. There is a swimming pool at the 'old' country club, which now belongs to the city, adjacent to Country Club Village and you can buy a pool membership for the summer - it's nicely kept and well supervised.
