We just moved here this past weekend and I've been researching what the kids & I can do (or we all do as a family, during the weekend) during these hot days.

I noticed in older posts, people mentioned the recreation membership...Is it worth it for the access to the pools?

Any other "cool" ideas for the kids & I during the week?

Thanks!

Allen has a great indoor pool. Plano has several good public pools. These are not free, but they are lower cost - pay per visit. Some public parks like Campbell Greene in Far North Dallas (very close to Plano) have a free little spray park area. There are some Hawaiian Falls water parks - Garland and The Colony. Rockwall has a little water park right near the high school. There is a great pool right next to Lewisville High School in Lewisville. The city of Garland also has a public wave pool that's fun.

You can also go by Celebration Park in Allen, right off Angel Parkway. The kids will love it.

Also, check this site, lots of good info on activities posted regularly http://www.aroundtownkidsplano.com/

We are in Richardson, but in Collin County. The Parks and Rec in both cities have lots of attractive options for activities. We've done Plano Rec in the past, and this summer we will be trying Richardson. If you are not a resident, you pay a bit more in Plano, but they have a ton of activities.

For another spray park option, also try Frisco Commons.

Oh, and Jack Carter Pool in Plano has a water playground for 6 year olds and under (I think admission is $2).

I have the full year membership for the pools/rec centers, but I am getting the summer membership ($40) for my son so he can join me. Otherwise it's $3/visit

There are splashgrounds in Frisco Commons and Allen Celebration parks that are good, but low on shaded areas. Arbor Hills has a good shaded playground, lots of paved and mountain biking trails.

The libraries are ramping up their summer programs, they offer a lot of free movies and gaming opportunities (Rock Band, Legos, etc).

For the exotic option, take a trip to 'the beach' at Little Elm Park off El Dorado at Lake Lewisville. It's free, has a great sandy beach with part of the lake cordoned off for swimmers. Take an umbrella or popup shelter with you if the sun is out in full force.

Since the water activities have been covered, here is another direction to go.

Kaboom town is Addison's outstanding fireworks display that takes place every year:
Addison Texas

Though this is not Plano specific, being current resident and Plano native myself, it is a whole lof of fun for the family if you're looking for some fun Summer events. It takes place on July 3rd, so very soon.

Also, you could catch a Roughrider's (Texas Ranger's farm team) baseball game off of the N. Dallas tollroad and Warren in Frisco or go up a little farther and watch FC Dallas play at Pizza Hut Park. Here is their website: FC Dallas
