... I think after many years of decline, downtown Dayton is finding its way and it will transform itself.
This is said every 10 years, it seems. Or a project is completed or a plan is released and its "oh, oh, lookee there, downtown is transforming itself!!!". Either that or people think the situation has finally bottomed-out, and then things decline even more....

Thanks for that. I guess that because I'm new and I read a lot and pay attention, I tend to forget I REALLY don't know much after all. I actually feel the someway you do about the place where I spent my teenage years...

Still, I really do like Dayton and I've enjoyed many downtown activities and events. I can't help but see its potential, so I sincerely hope that sometime soon projects and plans come together at the right time and that they gather the necessary momentum.

As much as I agree that Dayton's downtown has had many plans going for it that never work, I hate the sentiment that we should just expect this plan not to work. I'm not exactly thrilled about the downtown plan right now in that some of the projects are a bit ridiculous and outlandish. But I think that downtown is changing. And it has nothing to do with what the big organizations are doing. It is local investors that know we can transform it into what it needs to be- a place for people to be creative and live. I think that if we can somehow increase the downtown population, along with attract several new downtown amenities like 5/3 Field, Schuster Center, and Riverscape we can eventually attract people to come around more and want to play here and live here. Its an endless struggle, but I think we can figure it out. Realistically, Dayton is dead, to many. But its about time that people take our death and use it rather than complain about it. Because we have died, there are advantages. It's affordable and cheap to live here. There are less people which means easier traffic.
