Hi everyone! Since we have been living in Hawaii - we have become very accustomed to Asian foods. Does anyone know if there is a "chinatown" in or anywhere near Dayton?

Not really. There are a couple of Asian groceries around Dayton, and Meijer has a decent selection of some Asian vegetables and prepared foods. Your best bets for specialized Chinese foods will probably be Jungle Jim's outside Cincinnati or driving to Chicago.

No I think its much to small to have entire ethnic areas. Though for its size it does have a lot of different styles of food. I'm sure you will be able to find quite a few Oriental eateries. I'm not sure of the quality you're looking for though. Most are probably mom and pop places. The only bigger one I know of is China Palace and im not sure where they're located. Expensive eateries would be much less common. I really cant say as I tend to eat a lot of plain fruits and vegetables, or pizza, salad and subs.

Here are the Indian store locations, you might find some Oriental ones as well. I'm not sure about spice places.

Dayton has some good indian places and markets. There is a Vietnamese market near the Dayton Mall, too.

No chinatown, though. The asians of various sorts are spread around the suburbs, mostly.

Default Jungle Jims is amazing

Jungle Jims is the best I have worked here for 6 years now. We sell pretty much anything from complete frozen lambs fur and everything to cow eyes seriously just about everything. It is almost 2 acres big and has items imported from 70 different countries. You could easily make this a entire day trip to take everything in.
Here is a link to the Asian foods section of the website but I strongly suggest a visit:

HIgirl, if you're not already familiar with them, Dorothy Lane Market also has a fair assortment of ethnic foods and my wife finds the ingredients to make many foreign dishes. While not as big as Jungle Jim's, they will special-order for you.

Just in case; their stores are:

Oakwood: On Far Hills Ave.

Washington Twp. Corner of Whipp & Far Hills

Springboro: On 741 at Settler's Walk (just South of the Dayton Wright Bros. airport.

Hope you're all settled in at WPAFB and liking the Dayton area!

Wasn't some developer discussing building a China Town in Dayton in the paper like a few months ago?

Yeah, it was last year. Apparently the consensus was that this guy was a scam artist, had a number of failed ventures and couldn't be trusted.
