Hello,
We are moving to the Dayton area and considering buying houses in Xenia, Beavercreek or Mad River School districts. I believe I found online that there are special education classes in the Mad River School District. My son has mild autism and was spending some time working on math and reading in a room with other kids who were pulled out of the regular classroom about four days a week. He has an updated IEP, I just don't know if they offer anything like that in Beavercreek or Xenia and we want to pick the right district for him.
Thanks for any information you can give me.

I would go with Beavercreek. However, if you really want the best for your child I would consider Vandalia-Butler which has one of the best special needs programs for public education. Vandalia is roughly fifteen or twenty minutes away from Beavercreek/Mad River region. Good luck!

Beavercreek does offer special education programs. The school district, which is a little overcrowded right now, is at the beginning stages of expanding by building a new elementary and middle school. Also, the current Ferguson Middle School will become part of the high school (they are next to each other). These projects should be completed around 2011-2012.

I would contact the district(s) directly or pay the school(s) a visit to get the best feel of what is offered.

I would visit each district. Soemthing this impiortant shouldn't be left to chance. Or even opinions of soneone on a website. Beavercreek is going through adminstrative changes. A new superintendent as well as several central office staff. Of the three you listed it has by far the most resources. Mad River has several new buildings, but I do not know anything else about the district. Xenia has had issues with passing school levies, but has a stable adminstration. Go visit each district and ask about about autism specific support.

If you could commute from Cincinnati, Mason School Districts is supposed to be excellent for special needs students. It's probably the best district in Cincinnati now. It would be a 30-75 minute commute depending on where in Dayton you would work (30 minutes if Springboro, 65-75 minutes if you are north of downtown or far up north on 675).
