Been trying to find rentals in the Dover area but it seems like there is another force scooping them all up. Does DAFB have some sort of rental agreements with the realtors? At the rate I'm going here trying to find a place I might have to get rid of my pets. This is so frustrating finding affordable housing that takes pets! What the heck? I know I am not the only one having this problem. I see all these foreclosure notices on houses, why can't these be rented? Sorry for the rant but I am just so stressed about finding places around here.

No shortage here. I did a quick search and found 20 in the Caesar Rodney & Dover School Districts. They start at $695/mo and go to $1,500/mo. Pets o.k. in all.

Tell your Realtor to log into Trend, and search under Active Rentals. Plug in a school district or two, and the rental amount. I did $600-$1,500. Then go down and check "pets o.k."
They are there, and I just looked in 2 school districts.

hashford,

Your realtor is probably only considering properties for which his office has a relationship ($$$).

Please please don't get rid of your pets. As rdlr posted, there are many rentals out there that are "pets OK."
I donate to animal shelters and my own dog is a former shelter dog. Shelters fill up, in part, with pets
that couldn't move with their owners.

Many pet friendly rentals are out there, just a matter of doing the right search.

I know it can be frustrating, but please try to hang in there and stick with your pets.

I moved half way cross country with a dog and cat!

Have you tried Craigslist? I've never heard of using a realtor to find a renter. How does he get his fee? It's easier to do it yourself. Another way to look is to check realty companies' "property management" pages, to see if they have rentals available.

Yes, Realtors do that around here, and Real Estate Companies ARE management companies. The Reator finding a rental for someone gets a small fee.

We have been using realtor.com to see whats available. Craigslist really doesn't have much in the area with 3 bedrooms. Plenty for north Delaware though! Alot of places are pet friendly, just not to more than 3 pets! Really need to find away to start saving for a down payment. I really have come to love this area this past year and other than learning to deal with certain attitude problems and racism, my family seems happier here than we were elsewhere.

You should also check Zillow. Search for Dover, DE and do the following

- uncheck for sale and pre-market (red and blue house icons)
- check rental (purple icon)

I counted 24 rentals in Dover via Zillow

We did try Zillow and went to look at a place and the person there said it wasn't for rent and they had no idea what was going on. If I had my choice I'd just pitch a tent on the beach and live there!
